Josephine is originally from South Sudan but her family moved to Kenya because of the constant political war in the country.
They ended up in the Kakuma-Dadaab Refugee Camp. She later had to flee from her mother’s home together with her brother because their mother was married to a very violent man.
She later also fell out with her brother after he attempted to marry her off while she was still too young. Luckily, she was rescued through the RefuSHE program and has since been tailoring scarfs for sale as a source of income.
In 2019, Josephine was absorbed into the Fireside Women in Engineering program and has been accompanying our experienced engineers to the field so as to acquire practical skills in telecoms, as well as attending classes on weekends with the other girls in the WIE program.
